by Leon Jackson
Abidin began his musical career singing with a Malaysian soft rock outfit, Headwind, but left after deciding that his role did not allow him to to explore or celebrate the cultural traditions of his country. Initially, he turned against western styles altogether, embracing kampong village music and writing songs decrying the passing of traditional culture. Subsequently he took a more moderate stance and began to experiment in musical fusion, inspired by World Music leading lights Papa Wema and Youssou N'dour. ~ Leon Jackson, All Music Guide
