PARENTING: DAD'S JOB VS. MOM'S JOB
With Father's Day just ahead, now is a great time to think about just what it means to be a dad -- and how being a dad is much different than being a mom.
Researchers say that while dads are just as responsive to infants as mothers, fathers are able to put up with more screaming and yelling by the kid -- without trying to calm the kid down. Moms, on the other hand, are more motivated to keep their kid happy.
Dads also offer up more "tough love," especially during the tween years, and teach their kids to handle conflict appropriately by playing rough.
And, research from Boston University professor Leslie Brody concluded that when fathers are actively involved in their sons' lives, the boys were less aggressive, less overly competitive, and better able to express feelings of vulnerability and sadness.
