Deathcore band A Breath Before Surfacing was founded in Tucson, AZ, in 2006, arising from the same bustling regional scene responsible for spawning respected metal outfits such as Job For A Cowboy and The Red Chord. Comprised of vocalist Dustin Curtis, guitarist Scott Whisenant, and drummer Trevor Gunning, the group prepared their first demo the following year and immediately landed a contract with Mediaskare Records, subsequently corralling fourth member Jacob Green (guitar/bass) before entering the studio with producer Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, As Blood Runs Black). By the summer of 2008, A Breath Before Surfacing were ready to release their debut album, Death Is Swallowed In Victory, but then had to cancel their impending tour when Green quit the group, forcing the group to start auditions for a replacement, instead. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
