play safe

Play safe....as a parent I know I've said it dozens of times to my kids.  I don't think they even had bicycle helmets when I was a kid and I definetly earned my share of bumps on my melon.  With all the safe gear kids have nowadays there is no reason not to wear it.  Big scare this past weekend when my nephew plowed his quad into and underneath a trailer.   The crash sheared off the handlebars and gas tank .  Little Carson's face smashed into the edge of the trailer which seperated his top gums and teeth from his skull but thanks to a full face helmet thats where the damage stopped.  Dental surgeons re attached everything and amazingly there should be no permanent damage.   But if it weren't for that helmet this blog might  have been a whole lot sadder!  Did a lot of praying thursday night.

Green file.  We focus on environmental issues each weekday in the 7am news.  One story that fascinates me concerns those standby modes for electronics.  Recent report finds all kinds of stuff in your home is gobbling up energy when you're not even using it.  Over the course of a year a microwave uses more energy just sitting there and keeping a digital clock  running than you actually use in operating the microwave to heat food.  In our kitchen I'm afraid that digital clock is a necessity since kids today are unable to read "old fashioned" clocks.  Not that they haven't learned , it's just that the old clock with hands takes too much effort for todays children since it involves figuring something out and doesn't offer the instant gratification they've come to know and love.

Holiday mode....getting some interesting email from listeners who reley on our morning show to coincide with their morning routine and if Ron Clark is on instead of me...the fuzzy brain thinks they've slept in past noon!   Expect plenty more of that soon.  By the way Robin Allen is back next week and then I will be away the week of July 7-11.
